Straight fit with thicker outer padding

I live in Las Vegas, Nevada where the desert heat is nice. The tail light bulb blew last week. Simple operation, remove access panel, grasp tail light socket, twist and remove. NOT CORRECT! The seal between the housing and the lamp base melted, making it impossible to remove the base without damaging the lamp base. Neither for love nor for money could I separate the lamp socket from the lamp body. options? 1) Dealer - my wife did this and it cost $40 for a smelly tail light bulb! 2) New lamp…
