I was looking for an easy way to connect a garage door opener to Alexa, so I first looked at some full featured smart home garage door opener relays. However, they all cost $100 or more, and in some cases a service fee was required. Many of these systems have sophisticated sensor designs that tell you if the door is open or closed. In fact, I already have a security camera pointed at the door, so I don't really need the sensors. Other systems had compatibility issues with the security+ garage door opener. The result is a simple and inexpensive solution. I didn't even have problems with the WiFi signal even though I have a separate garage. My Nighthawk router's signal was strong enough to connect. The only downside is that you have to get your own instructions on how to pair the device to your wifi network on the ewelink website and the switch shows up as a fan switch in Alexa which oob has when off. I ended up installing Google Assistant and iftt so I could create smart voice commands instead of telling Alexa to turn on my garage. Attached are some pics of the wiring, still need to get a project box to cover the unit but the old 12v power adapter worked great for power. I measured the voltage on the garage door opener circuit and it was 16 volts which the relay seems to be handling fine. It's been working for two weeks now, no problems with overheating yet. Another caveat, the ewelink app that you need to pair with the device sends notifications in Chinese requires a bit of guesswork.
