I wanted to like this because of the beautiful location of the socket and USB charging, but it has a serious problem. The unit I received had the AC line and neutral connected reversed, which is a serious safety hazard. When the switch is off, anything plugged into this 2 pin extension cord will "get hot" and could give you a nasty electrocution! The pictures clearly show the black "hot" wire connected to the PCB terminal marked "N" and the white neutral connected to the "L" terminal. The second image shows an AC outlet tester showing an incorrect connection. I understand that the black and white encoding is typical for the USA, but the Chinese manufacturer should have known this and not made such a mistake. Since I can solder, I left this extension and repaired the wiring myself. The third picture shows the socket tester after I corrected the wiring. There are other issues that potential buyers should be aware of. The internal wiring that connects the USB charger to the AC outlet violates accepted safety standards and can potentially cause an AC short because one of the wires is placed so that mechanical movement of the outlet pins can wear down the insulation. Also, the product does not have a label that says it has been tested for safety (e.g. UL, ETL). On the plus side, the surge protector part has been wired correctly and should protect the device as advertised. EDIT (6/9/2018): Nekteck responded to my initial email review and politely refunded. They also went ahead and offered me a similar device (NK-S4U2-5) for free. I am happy to report that I did not find any errors when replacing the device. I will say that their customer service experience was easy and very pleasant with no complaints from me in this regard, so I changed the star rating from 2 to 4. (I also noticed that this particular unit is "sold out" in stock at the moment", which to me means that Nekteck is acting responsibly and may not ship any more items until they are certain the issue is resolved; Kudos to Nekteck and I wish more suppliers were concerned about this. I hope they fix it and will make it available again soon as I really liked the concept.)
