An excellent all-round lens. If you don't want to switch or carry around lenses while you're shooting, this lens can do a good job in most situations. Autofocus is noisy and a bit slow, but that's AF-S for you. The VR stabilization works great. All example shots were taken with my Nikon D3300. High magnification rock taken from hands in a shady forest in the late evening. Hummingbird in almost full magnification, taken from the hand, through a glass door. It's very shy and flies away when I get close to the door, allowing me to shoot from across the room with the 200mm zoom. Full-width creek in the forest, with hands, very late in the afternoon. The only problem I encountered. I've noticed that the zoom often slips to full zoom as the camera bounces on the strap. I bought this used lens from storage for about $150 and it is incredible value for the price. Make sure you enable automatic distortion correction in your camera (and update the lens database firmware) as there will be some distortion at full zoom and zoom.
