The cake holder is made of durable plastic that's tough enough to get the job done, yet lightweight plastic. There will definitely be meringue tarts with higher peaks. The edges are a bit sharp so it doesn't have the "feel" of quality like it's rounded. The lower, flat part of the base fits a 10" product and the sides flare up and out, see photo. For smaller 6 inch cakes, it may be better to cut the slices and put them in separate containers so the cake doesn't slide into the larger red holder. I find this keeper really useful, especially as it's useful for other items. For example, I make 10 inch cinnamon rolls that go really well in a large cream. I will attach a photo.
