UPDATE OCTOBER. 25 2019_ After my first review on October 15th, Hamilton replied to my first review and finally after 5 emails they offered a 50% discount to buy another HB product as the warranty expired after a few months. I had already replaced the product with a better brand so I declined the offer. However; What is very disturbing is that they did not answer any of my questions regarding the actual heavy smoke or the quality control level of production testing to determine if there was a bad start or issues with this particular model. I see others have had this overheating and smoking issue. This is an electrical device that most of our homes have. The next phase could end in a fire or something worse. I'm not one to scold any company that responds with a reasonable degree of transparency and accountability, but the same cannot be said for Hamilton Beach. This morning, after almost 18 months of good use, the iron under the stove started smoking and set off the smoke alarm. The iron contained only distilled water, it was always kept upright without water and never dropped. frightening.
