Like other reviewers, I loved this pencil sharpener. I figured this item would work great so I could just insert a pencil and let it do its thing. No more holding pencils to keep them from curling. After receiving the product, I tried sharpening three different pencils. I couldn't help but smile as I watched the sharpener at work. Satisfied that the sharpener worked properly, I placed it in my classroom, where it sat unused for two weeks. It was the first day of school and my students had many pencils they had brought to class to sharpen. To my shock and dismay, the sharpener didn't work. I had a class of grumpy fourth graders with unsharpened pencils that I had to send around the neighborhood to get the assignment done. Here's what happened to the first item I ordered after the error. When a pencil was placed in the sharpener, the motor rotated the blade about 1 degree every second. Something seemed to be connected internally. I have initiated a return of the first item and sent a replacement. After receiving the second sharpener, I took it out of the box to see if it worked. I pocketed a second sharpener, pocketed a pencil as well, and everything seemed to work properly. He pulled the pencil down, twisted the blade to sharpen it, and then. Nothing. The first two steps worked, but the very important third step, pushing the pencil back, failed. Here's the funniest thing. Convinced that the replacement was no good, I decided to try the original. It worked as it should! The first sharpener failed after three pencils. The second sharpener never worked properly when delivered. But the first decided to go back to work. I've decided to return both as I can't trust the first one to always work 100%. Although the concept of this pencil sharpener is amazing, I would not recommend anyone to buy this item.
