are great they are high quality and great value. Updated 01/2021. I've changed my mind about these filters. They're inexpensive and they work, but there are better options out there. I find that sponges have pores that are too small and require too much cleaning. After a few months of use, the air vents in the base of the stand were also clogged with limescale and I had to cut out the plastic air hose included in the riser. Some sponges also begin to break down after a few years of use. The bubbles are too big (which means they're loud and ineffective) and you can't add the air stone without modification. I would have preferred a rougher sponge and the ability to add airstones without modification.
