Review on Optimize your Cycling Experience with Domain Cycling Extra Long Gel Handlebar Bar Tape Wrap for Road Bikes by Paul Monzon

BEST BANG A DOLLAR

Yes you can get the band cheaper (and I've had it many times) but this is my third order of this product and I haven't found anything better for my money. ADVANTAGES: (A) LENGTH. 94 inches of tape on each side, which is 10-15 inches longer than many other brands. This allows me to space my rods out by overlapping each turn a little more than usual. I need extra padding because my hands get numb when I ride long distances. If you don't need extra filling, you can always trim off the excess as you get closer to the stem. The extra length also allows you to make a figure eight around the switches if you want to wrap them that way. In any case, you should never run out of tape on traditional road handlebars like my Trek road bikes. (B) CLAMPS. Just the perfect hold. Not too sticky but more than enough to keep your hands from slipping on the bar. Good padding along with grip. (C) DURABILITY. This tape lasts at least a few hundred miles longer than the cheaper tapes I've bought. I can't quantify it exactly, but my reorders don't seem to be that frequent and I ride about the same. (D) NO SLIDE. Once installed, this tape will not slide down the bar like some others do. Now I'll help out a bit with a tip I saw online, where I wrap my handlebars in hockey stick tape FIRST (sticky side up). Not only does the hockey tape give me a little extra padding, but when you wrap the bar tape around it, it holds the hockey tape in place and the tape never slips off. When you are about to remove the tape, the hockey tape can be easily removed as it was placed sticky side up. CONS: (A) STARTING PRICE. It's only a scam if you don't consider how long it takes, but it's a bit pricey at first. (B) COLOR. This is also not a minus, but I once ordered WHITE. Everything looked great for a week, and then it got awful. No matter how I tried to clean it, it no longer looked bright white. Don't get me wrong, I love the way the white band looks on a road bike, but it's easier to take the black one and be done with it. No matter what you put on it, black will still look black the day you have to remove it. 94 inches doesn't feel like much until you realize you're not wrapping as close to the stem as you'd like. Until I see something much better I will use this tape.
