Review on TORCHSTAR Basic Series 8-Pack: Energy-Efficient 12W 6 Inch LED Recessed Lighting with Junction Box for Home or Office by Darth Naubert

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Good value for money, nice colour, brightness but pretty good dimmer control

Love these bulbs. There are some downsides, but they can be dealt with. The junction box is a bit inconvenient as the lugs for attaching the box to the beam are small and are close to the holes for the service wires. You need to buy small screws; Take the box to the hardware store. I think I used 3/4" and that was enough. Since the box is thin you will need to tighten the cable clamps (3/8" sold separately) with the screw heads towards the beam before mounting the box. Then you can install the box.The leads from the box to the light and the light to the box are a bit short but worked fine.Note that I cut holes in the ceiling tile and installed the light directly into the tiles. The lights weigh 8, 5 ounces so there is no problem with sagging tiles.I used Dremel hole cutters (678-01 circular cutter and ruler guide; $10 - we already had a Dremel tool. This method was easy. But as mentioned above, make sure (that the box is mounted as close as possible to the light source as the cord is not very long. ) and 850 lumens is a bright light. I have eight of these, a meter apart, in a room of about 30 by 15 .Almost too much light.without a dimmer. I used Lutron Maestro; MACL-153M-WH. Long range, no flicker. Since they are not set back, the light will smack a little in your eyes as you enter the room. But the specific application is surface mount, so that's the case. I didn't have room for recessed cans.
