Review on DANCO Decorative Chrome Toilet Tank Lever - Right Front/Side Mount Replacement Handle (89447A) by Matthew Mrspeach

Looks good and feels good. Doesn't work well unless modified.

The handle is attractive enough to make you feel safe. However, the travel allowed by the built-in handle stopper is not sufficient to raise the flap far enough for it to stay open after the handle is released. As a result, when the handle is pressed, the flap opens and the flushing begins. But as soon as the handle is released, the flap closes completely and the flush stops. You just can't move the handle far enough to start the flush properly. I had to modify the built-in stop with a grinding tool. This solved that problem. There is also a second problem. The handle hangs down when not in use. This means that as soon as the flush is finished, the tank is refilled and everything is calm, the handle will hang down under its own weight. I had to add some stainless nuts to the other end of the rod (inside the tank) to make the mechanism heavier. This caused the rod to fall off in the tank, causing the handle to return to its original position (level, not lower). After the modification, the mechanism works perfectly and the handle looks and feels very good. But such a simple detail should work out of the box, and I don't think many people will want to have the right tools to deal with a stick travel issue or fix a droop issue.

Pros
  • Sturdy construction
Cons
  • Security
