East assembly. Make sure you push the bars until you hear a pop. When you're done, simply lie on your side and punch each joint with your clenched fist. You'd be surprised how many of these didn't install correctly when you installed them. We bought two sets but decided to use small shelves on each side rather than placing TWO units side by side. Good work. ONE PROBLEM, the height of the clothes hanging system is not for teenagers (unless you are small) as the clothes were not hanging but rested a bit on the bottom shelf. We moved the shelf down, leaving only a hanging section. Overall satisfied with the price and purchase.
