Review on Upgraded Pair of 5.25-Inch Car Sound Speakers by Kenny Hrdlicka

My original surround speaker broke at the foam so I wanted to replace it with the butyl surround they have. Unfortunately, this speaker only has a seal in front of the mounting lugs. This means the speaker must be on the back of the mounting plate for the spacer to work. My speaker is front mounted, which means you remove the door panel, put the speaker in the hole, and attach the mounting screws. Unfortunately, since the speaker doesn't have a gasket on the back, you have to rely on the back of the speaker to seal against the metal door. Adding to this problem, Pyle decided to make the speaker as small as possible while still being able to call it a 5 1/4 diameter. While the mounting holes are designed for a 5 1/4 speaker, the cone and frame are so small that the edges of the door cutout surrounding the speaker could be seen during installation. The sound is ok but it would probably be a lot better if the back of the speaker had a pad for a good seal and was about 1/8 larger in diameter. Only buy this if your speaker will be mounted behind a door panel or if your cutout is between 4.50" and 4.85". I had 4.96 inches.
