I've only used a string of these lights but I'm very happy with them. Battery life (3 AA batteries, non-rechargeable) has not decreased at all. Batteries did not have to be changed (I use about 3 weeks). The timer cannot be set. When you turn on the light, it stays on for 6 hours and then off for 18 hours. If you want them to turn on at a specific time, turn them on at the right time the first time you use them, and they'll work in that pattern every night. I used mine on the Santa Claus face that was on the front door. What I love about battery timer lights is that you don't have to be home to turn them on. When you leave, it looks like you are at home. The reason for the 4 stars is that I find it difficult to open the battery compartment. I'm ready to take the batteries out because I won't be using them until next year and can't figure out how to open the box to take them out. Some instructions would be nice.
