Excellent sealing! It's very safe! This Christmas (2019) I baked a lot of banana and pumpkin bread and it sealed the bags perfectly! Because I have *this niece* who climbs into everything when no one is looking, I tried closing the top bar and sealing my fingers, but it didn't work. It is also not hot between the sealed bags. I love it! For bags that are wider than the seal, I just seal one half and then the other. It is no problem for me. I also like the temperature control. For regular plastic bags, I keep the temperature at 4.5, which is the ideal temperature. The first pouch I made I had at 5 (it goes to 6) and that sealed the pouch but it was also close to melting it so of course I lowered the temperature. This is a great product! If you didn't get what we 5 star people say, return it and get another one because it might be the batch that doesn't work because it's the best sealant!
