Super bright grow light that gets a little warm

I bought this grow light to replace the fluorescent grow lights (four 20 watt bulbs total) that I was using. This LED light has about the same light output as other grow lights I still use today. This other light source uses four 55W fluorescent tubes. LED light and fluorescent lamps stand side by side. In my estimation, the LED light is brighter. The LED light gets a little warm. I have a feeling I'm guessing around 140F with an ambient temperature of around 75F. I have an extensive "garbage box" of electronic parts. I found a 24vdc electronics fan (rotor just over 4" diameter) and a 12vdc "wall wart". Running the fan at half the rated voltage still provides good airflow with much less noise. Power consumption is also reduced to less than one watt. I tied some spikes to a fan and hung it over a light fixture using the same hook that holds the light. When the fan turned on the light, the temperature of the light dropped significantly. Now it's running at less than 110°F (estimate). This cooling should increase lamp life by about 50%. The luminous flux should also increase slightly.

Pros
  • Lots of positive vibes
Cons
  • Lack of power
