I work in the steel body armor industry and a stack of 3 10lb plates fell right on my metatarsal pads. My feet are bigger in size 13W and although I felt it, they protected my feet from injury. Another colleague had a similar experience and his injury was so severe that he had to call an ambulance the next day. With large feet and maybe not always optimally fitting pads, the concave edges can still hit the foot on impact, but I'm sure they worked exactly as they should and saved me from injury. I would definitely recommend them. Initially I used factory laces with plastic tips, which occasionally banged on the plastic as I walked, which annoyed me. After I ripped the laces and switched to leather, they are silent. Sometimes they clung to things, but I feel like they are worth it in my workplace. They are shiny which I don't care, mine are only dark because of my work environment.
