I have been sewing for 63 years. I was sewing clothes for children in Haiti when my older singer started giving me problems. I needed a machine to continue sewing and have a steady income, ordered this because of the price, availability and experience with Singer. When the machine arrived, I filled the bobbin, threaded it, and sewed a practice piece of fabric. He made an awful noise. When I called Singer support they told me that this was not normal and that if the retread didn't fix the noise I should return the car. I did some troubleshooting and found that the machine was not assembled correctly. The screws on the front panel have been overtightened, causing the plastic to overlap around the filament mount. I removed the screw and found that the dowel pin was also loose. Both have been properly tightened and now the machine runs great, but it's a shame for whoever built these machines. I ended up disassembling and repairing my old car so I now have the luxury of two reliable Singer cars!
