The spacer allows for some cooling but the small amount it does has nothing to do with fans Fans definitely quietly . The lighting looks beautiful. The grips are great and my laptop sat perfectly on them without bouncing or sliding. Would give 2 stars for a decent design but their own video says about the fans "High Wind, High Speed Operation" which is actually a lie. The fans are quiet as their speed is only 1200 rpm. They hardly move through the air. The only noticeable cooling I've noticed with this stand is that it elevates your laptop off any flat surface. This allows the laptop's own fans/fans to work better. I ran a few gaming sessions to see the difference between cooling pad fans on, fans off, and no cooling pad at all. I've noticed a temperature drop of about 4-5 degrees Celsius when using a pad compared to when not using (see pictures). I find it almost irrelevant, but I think if that's all you need, great. Turning the fans on or off made little difference, however. Only 1 degree is possible (see pictures). The shoe is not expensive and I find the processing ok. Yes, the plastic feels cheap, but the grille is metal. I suppose if you have something to stand your laptop on that will elevate it and increase airflow and a small temperature difference is all you need, $20+ is decent. However, I expected more from a gaming laptop - and by the way - that the included fans actually do something. Unfortunately, at 1200 rpm they do nothing at all. Who cares that they're quiet when turning them off does almost the same thing? Better no noise than a little noise, right?
