Coffee, tea and espresso smell best

I bought this version of the Bialetti coffee maker because I thought the stainless steel version would leave fewer metal marks in my morning drink . I couldn't get rid of the "smell" of my coffee with the original. Unfortunately, even after thoroughly cleaning this product, running clean water and replacing the rubber seal with silicone, the strange smell it produces lingers. Some friends said they don't smell. Others do the same, describing it as a "sweet metallic" smell. Atypical coffee profile. I isolated the source of the odor from the lower water box. Something about the coating Bialetti uses should disintegrate when heated and give off that smell. As I said, it can also be felt in the coffee. Bialetti is an established company and Italians have been using their products for decades. I wanted to love the mocha pot and couldn't get past the smell. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this version for the same reason. And since I'm not sure about the safety of the water box coating, which can leave trace elements behind, I'm only giving one star.

Pros
  • Testers give high marks for grip and durability
Cons
  • Could have gone for a newer model
