After using the Olympus SP-100 for a week, I came to the conclusion that, apart from a few surfaces, it has excellent qualities Weaknesses. Overall, I didn't find anything that deserved a "WOW!". So I'm returning it and continuing to search for a camera that better suits my needs. Here, however, my main thoughts are on the positive side. In addition, there are of course many other features, but here is what is particularly important to me: ► Excellent and relatively quiet zoom. A 50x optical zoom and a 100x digital zoom add an extra dimension to enjoying the places visited. Not only do you use the camera to take photos, you can also use the camera as binoculars. Check out this shot of the moon I took at full 100x zoom (50x optical then 100x digital zoom). ► Excellent auto focus. Unlike an SLR where you focus manually, you're heavily dependent on that camera's ability to quickly focus on close or distant subjects. I found this to be one of the strengths of this camera over the Coolpix L830, which to be honest costs almost $200 less. Olympus focuses with such consistency that you don't even think about it. The extra effort is worth it, because the extra time that a slow camera focuses often means that the perfect moment is lost. ► Dot Sight is cool but a little over the top to set it apart from the competition in the super zoom category. . I thought it would be a "Wow!" feature, but that's only true if you're taking a lot of photos or videos of distant, moving objects. Also, it forces you to use an LCD monitor, which is ineffective in bright sunlight. This is a great feature for bird watchers and sports enthusiasts, but I doubt most people will use it very often. This seems to be the standard for a bridge camera with such advanced features. They are also found in many digital SLR cameras. ✗ No Wi-Fi file transfer. Many inexpensive small pickups and pickups have this.✗ Color distortion and noise at higher magnifications. I had the opportunity to compare the photos taken with this camera with those of the Fujifilm S-1. At higher zoom levels, the Olympus had an odd bluish cast and a lot of noise. Fujifilm photographs had more natural tones and also showed finer details. All in all, the Olympus SP-100 is a solid choice in the crowded superzoom/bridge camera category. But there are tradeoffs and feature omissions that I don't want to do without.
