I have had this table lamp for about a year now and it works perfectly. The light is bright. It takes four AA batteries and I have found the battery life to be very acceptable given that I use this flashlight several times a week. I think I've changed the batteries two or three times in the last year. The base is heavy enough to keep the light from tipping over and the gooseneck is easy to maneuver to focus the light exactly where I need it. Given the choice between plug-in light source and battery style, I would definitely go for this one. I recommend buying it
