I bought this bedside table for my son's dorm room because I wanted him to have room for a laptop or book, his glasses and phone where they would still be available. I liked that this one had a slim, uncluttered profile as many of them look bulky and tacky, sticking out 10 inches or more from the edge of the bed. This cart is rigid (as expected) and would be great except the flap that slides under the mattress isn't deep enough to hold it in place. It comes with Velcro which I think should stick to the spring, but I've never seen the tape stick well to fabric, especially when holding something as heavy as a laptop. Are you really willing to take the risk? Dorm mattresses are usually a mattress on open springs and there was no way to keep this carriage in place even with nothing in the pockets. 3 stars for the looks and the great idea, but that's not possible for a dorm bed without extra judge adjustment.
