My baby likes listening to music in his room. We gave her an old (but very expensive) CD player/radio that we no longer use and when it eventually died we wanted something fairly cheap that could handle baby's rough hands. I was hoping to pay around $20 but couldn't find anything with good reviews that matched the price. I even tried a larger wall box because I liked that it could be hung on your wall, but it was designed to leave a blue light on all the time. The?! Why?! So I found this and tried it - it's absolutely perfect and I love that the size fits her shelf better than any other. It feels solid, easy to use, and fairly intuitive for a toddler. The sound is good and the controls are nice because they are very sensitive - we can listen at a fairly low volume without making any "too loud" or "too quiet" adjustments. I think the price is a bit high for what it is but I couldn't find anything cheaper so I think it's in line with current prices. I suspect people just don't use CD players with phones and TVs with music channels anymore, so manufacturers have to raise prices just to capitalize on it. This is the only explanation I can think of why this simple 20+ year old technology isn't super cheap. But it is neither here nor there. The product is good, it works well and time will tell how durable it is I hope.
