Okay, you can change to get better.

These lights are a good place to start depending on your plans. For the interior, it's probably fine. But for use on a boat or in nature, in my opinion, they are not quite suitable without some modifications. Since I bought this to tape under my boat's guns, I went ahead and made some repairs. First, the original tape is absolute rubbish. There is an "M" printed on the backing paper, but don't even think it's 3M. First I carefully removed the old tape. It took a lot of time, but not as much time as trying to fix it when it inevitably fails and the light falls off whatever you stick it to. After you change the tape to 3M VHB (works great for anything, buy in bulk, you'll use it). I had a few other chores to do. I divided the strip into two 8 foot sections. I put a little heat shrink tubing on the cut ends to seal the end from water getting in. Pinch the end of the heat shrink with pliers while it's still hot, that's all you need to do to seal it well enough. You need adhesive heat shrink tubing, not just regular stuff. Aside from the original tape, I was also unimpressed by the length or quality of the original braids. The original wire is very thin and breaks easily. This wire does not easily connect to existing boat wiring and will not hold up in harsh environments. I removed the original heat shrink tubing from the wires, stripped the old wires, and soldered a large length of 18/2 tinned marine wire. After that I reheated the connections and everything was ready to be installed. I believe these changes will improve the quality and reliability of these inexpensive LED strips to a level that is equal to or better than the strips marketed as "marine LEDs". for a lot more money. While they're still not suitable for underwater use, they're ideal for most accent lighting on boats and cars after these changes.
