Review on Amprobe 4589825 BAT 250 Battery Tester by Christopher Bacho

Revainrating 4 out of 5

This is a cheap battery tester - pay money and take risks.

Short answer: Pretty much EVERY tester in this price range has the same positive and negative reviews. For each, you'll see "it works" ratings mixed in with the traditional negative response "test all batteries as 'good' no matter what". Some of the available models even appear to be THE ONLY PRODUCT apart from the "manufacturer" name stamped on the plastic. Just pick one and cross your fingers. I chose this (BAT-250) because it was the only "250" model on sale and claimed it was better than other models because it was supposed to be "one hand tested" or something could become similar. along these lines. Roll the dice. Pros: Seems to be for testing batteries. Yes, 90% of these are tested as 'good', but I pushed ahead and found a few that tested in the lower 'replacement range'. My Radio Shack seems to be the one getting the same results. Cons (1): Pretty odd when testing button batteries. I used the bottom battery gauge, but I think this thing is eating/depleting button batteries from what I've observed from the gauge slowly falls from high green to low green, and this is with the new "medical" Duracell coin cell battery out of the box. So while it may seem like a test of coin cells, it does appear to drain the battery as you test them - better not test button cell batteries unless you are 99% sure the battery is already dead...then the BAT-250 will flesh it out.A Radio Shack will stay in place until I check the battery, but I only have a BAT-250 so I have no idea if the stylus wobble is normal or it peels off.But for less than $10 - pay your money and take a risk.Unrelated :I I've read tons of positive/negative reviews on various products and one thing has come up - IF you want a serious/accurate battery tester, get a multimeter. Otherwise, pick a battery tester and cross your fingers.
