Guitar Mahogany Kidney Table

Mahogany Guitar (and the table looks great). I rubbed the first layer with old white socks. Waited 3 hours and sanded with 220 sandpaper, that removed most of it. Apply 2nd layer. Waited 3 hours, sanded with 220 grit paper and applied a third coat. After a while I added a final, heavier layer just for fun. This mahogany was very "greedy" and porous so it absorbed the shine. The guitar looks great. I ended up with 2/3 of the can left, so I poured some on the mahogany table. I used almost 1/3 more cans. The table looks super shiny and "wet" like piano lacquer. Guitar tip: apply thick coats, I went slow and applied thin coats (that's fine) but even pouring onto the countertop doesn't leave any weird bumps (no brush marks because it rubs off). Guitar Tip 2: After When the guitar is finished, take clean white socks and run them up and down the back of your neck to smooth them out. I have factory guitars that feel like sandpaper on the fretboard. You either play it for weeks and your palm smooths it out, or you use the sock trick. I've posted before and after photos of the guitar and a photo of the table. I made 3 thin coats and 1 thick coat. 9 on guitar. I did 3 extra heavy layers on a kidney shaped table. Sheen, 1 pint, and I still have a little less than half a can left. I'm so glad I didn't chicken out and paint everything black. and the sandpaper you use in the glass jar outside because if the poly dries on a rag or sandpaper it can't spontaneously catch fire! Says that even right on the shore. When I was done, I soaked the rags and sandpaper in water and threw them in the trash can, which I kept out of the house and garage until garbage collection day (it was 91 degrees here, so I was a little nervous the rags were going to explode , lol). I recommend this material. But take good rags. Old black socks leave lint, but old white socks, shirts, or washcloths don't. Have another rag (which you will also throw away to wipe the item after sanding). I have never sanded the table and it is very shiny and even. I sanded the guitar between each coat but not after the last one. The finish is smooth but kind of semi-matte because I love it so much and quit. I could probably apply one last super dense coat to even it out on the table but I like how it looks now. Wiping down a shiny surface gives you a lot of options. You can take your time and create exactly what you want, or lay it down on a heavy one and still get a glossy finish with no brush or spray marks. With relief, these articles came out fine.
