As a professional photographer, I've recently started creating different gel looks. Although cello reeds are not heat resistant, remember that you should not place the reeds near a lightbulb/light source. You will melt. I used a reflex bowl with barn doors. The cello reed was about 6 inches from the LED flash and 3 inches from the modeling lamp. In my attached image I used two cello sheets taped to the modifier. Be sure to use tape as it is heat resistant and leaves no residue when removed. These sheets are fine as long as you keep them away from a heat source and don't leave your modeling lamp on for too long.
