Ok, I use Windows, Linux and Mac. For different applications. And I want to continue using my beautiful Canon Vixia HV-30 MiniDV camera which is only 5 or 6 years old. That's new for me! I upgraded to a new Mac (that's my movie and infotainment only system) iMac 2.9 i5 and ran into a Mac backwards compatibility issue which was that it had NO FIRE WIRE PORTS at all. To put it mildly, I was skeptical. So I connected a Thunderbolt to the FW 800, then connected this little elago FW800 to 400 adapter and the old FW 400 cable to the camera. I had to "push it in" but it was okay.> BINGO! <Final Cut (purchased new) recognized the camera with no errors. Everything works smoothly and pleasantly. I've only transferred 10 minutes of footage to a Mac, but this little piece works flawlessly and the small size is a plus. I don't have specs to report speed etc. It works for my film projects.
