The backplane cannot be integrated with the motherboard to allow for thermal control and/or PWM control. It's actually not that great as the design of this product doesn't allow for good airflow for the rest of the board. The fans run at a low speed, although the passive Quadro NVS 290 gets very hot. I can't find any documentation with instructions on how to set up PWM from the board, nor can I find the cable that connects the PWM fan to the motherboard. The case protection cable is advertised on the product website; However, I cannot find a way to purchase this device and the documentation for this product is very poor. Silverstone, if you are reading this please work on correcting the documentation or provide a pinout for the 25+ pin header on the board if this is the correct place for it. I would love to make my own cable but I have no idea what each pin does.
