I purchased this pair of transceivers after researching the market and reading customer reviews. I didn't want to go through the trouble of licensing a more powerful product that I probably wouldn't need anyway. I am very happy that I chose Proster devices. At this price you can't go wrong. We wanted them to keep in touch while riding bikes, looking for metal, at work or just at the supermarket where we regularly lose each other. They save us from wasting expensive minutes on our mobile phones. I checked the range around town and we have good reception up to 3/4 mile. That's probably just as good as having more obstacles, but it's good enough for us - we're usually never more than that distance apart. I particularly like the included speaker/microphone, which is great for cycling or working where you need both hands free. Even under these circumstances, the VOX protocol excels. I'm sure in a rural or open area I could probably double or triple the range I get in the city.
