Fire hazard, not safe

Yesterday I would have given 5 stars. Tonight the battery pack got so hot there is no doubt it could have caught on fire had I not realized it when I did. Thank goodness my son was having restless sleep tonight. This song went from working perfectly fine for 7 months or so to having half the lights stop working. Everything else seemed fine. Even contacted the company about the lights and they said they would send a new dog for free and no need to send the old one back. Although they did say it could take a month or more to get (blamed on Covid) and provided no shipping information. Tonight the battery pack was SO hot. I turned the switch to the off position and decides the batteries needed to come out right then. I could hardly touch the batteries to get them out of the battery pack they were so hot. I would not say this toy is safe. If absolutely everything is perfectly fine with it then I suppose it is fine. But we did not even have it for a whole year and the wiring messed up bad enough to almost start a fire. So once something goes wrong it goes very wrong and poses a HIGE threat to the child. We will not be using the replacement we get because I refuse to risk the safety of my son. We will be looking for a new, better quality, light up animal. Which is a shame because my son loved this one.

Pros
  • The LED lights are energy-efficient and long-lasting, meaning the toy won't run out of power quickly
Cons
  • May not appeal to children who prefer smaller or more portable toys
