Not suitable for grooving, even in pine and YES with a sharp chisel. This is intended for fine work rather than heavy felling. But as I should have known the beech wouldn't survive lol. The handle is also oddly shaped, flat rather than round, so it doesn't fit my hand. ready to finish it myself as stated in other reviews
