I've been through at least 3 of these in the last 8 years and they've all failed the same way; The plastic backing starts to deteriorate after a few years and then you no longer have protection for your mattress. I bought these to protect my Select Comfort Sleep Number bed as they are very expensive and I wanted them to look new. This protector did it pretty well and generally kept sweat and the like off the mattress. We don't have any issues with spills and the like, so we had no real experience with how well it would protect liquids again. But the big problem is that they are very expensive and short-lived. And like everyone else has said, there are no guarantees. I didn't even try to make a claim because obviously that would annoy me more than the money I spent on the product. I had the first one for about two years, then decided to wash it according to the instructions and it came out completely ruined (the backing has fallen off, torn, peeled, etc. all over the place which made a huge mess. Ordered a second one and haven't washed it at all and it also started falling apart after a few years Worse, I only washed my current one ONCE about a year ago and after that everything was fine, I got it out of bed yesterday and the plastic pad started to deteriorate again. So they're mostly disposable in the summer and it's ridiculously expensive, just not worth it. Updated 4/24/2014 I have a product called Hospitology Waterproof & Hypoallergenic Natural Cotton Mattress Protector 20 Year Warranty available here at Revain for about 1/4 the price of this one I just received it a few days ago and the quality seems a little better than this it product. They also say that the guarantee is 20 years. Now I don't rely on the guarantee and can't speak at the moment about how well they keep that moment (but there's certainly nothing worse than how the bed guards respect them). What I can say is that if this product lasts 2-3 years I will be a lot happier having spent a lot less to replace it.
