Great price and high performance

I bought this for video purposes. I am not a professional videographer. I mostly shoot family moments in the run and shoot style. Pros: 82mm. Six levels of coverage. Cons: No hard stops. I helped control the light and get my desired shutter speed. I find the picture quality excellent. There is a slight color cast but I can't fix anything in post. I correct color in all shots, so this is not an obstacle for me. When I buy filters I always buy 82mm filters and use reinforcement rings that fit my smaller glass. I like that this device is 82mm wide. Second, the coverage is a great range for stops 2 through 8. It's comfortable to use and I didn't notice any artifacts while using it. A few features I don't like that I don't think would be expensive to fix. While the filter is easy to operate and use while driving, it doesn't have a tactile indicator to tell you when you've reached a stop or end point. This probably makes things smoother when filming, but it would be nice to have a hard stop at the endpoints. The filter is thick. You can see it in the pictures compared to other filters with similar functionality. I didn't think of that when I bought it, but it's making it difficult for me to fit multiple filter/booster rings in my filter tube. Only the filter is tightly squeezed, the filter with ring is not suitable; It requires complete disassembly each time, which discourages its use. Finally, the 82mm lens cap will not fit this filter when attached to the camera. I'm not particularly keen on leaving my glass unprotected when not in use. If I'm reluctant to leave the filter on due to the lack of a protective cap, I'm missing opportunities because I have to assemble it first. This may be an amateur complaint, but I don't make any money off my gear. I have to be careful with it to make it last. Overall I would buy this filter again. I think this is very useful especially when used for videos. I used more words for this review to describe the cons, but this is a solid variable ND filter that works as expected. The best gear is what you use. Tiffen if you follow the comments. I know I would benefit more from this filter if it had a protective coating. After that, please deal with hard stops.
