When I got my NEX VG20 I only had the body. My next couple of lenses were plain ones with no stabilization. They give excellent results on a tripod. Then I got a Metabones adapter to attach my 18-270 Tamron to the NEX and I got stabilization but no autofocus during video recording. When I bought this OSS 18-55mm lens, my VG20 felt like a camcorder for the first time. . Now remember that this is a 3.5 lens, it cannot be used for shooting in complete darkness, for example in a nightclub. But indoors in moderate light, the camera and lens combination produces better results than my DSLR, not grainy at all. Sure it's fantastic in daylight but that doesn't mean anything, most lenses matter. For me, autofocus, zoom to go from setup shots to close-ups, and stabilization are extremely valuable, and that makes this little lens one of the most valuable in my collection, even if it's not the most expensive or the most impressive .view.
