Review on IJDMTOY (1) 18-SMD-5050 LED Strip Light Compatible With Car Trunk Cargo Area Or Interior Illumination by Christopher Lance

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Requires major wiring and equipment upgrades.

Before installing this LED strip, I tested it with the 12V battery that comes with the Alpena LED strip. I'm really tired of these absurd angel hair wires and toy electrical connections. The wiring and connectors look like the inside of a Symas $15 RC helicopter and it's totally unsuitable for automotive applications if you ask me. absurd lines. I solved the grounding problem by sandwiching thin wires between two pieces of electrical tape. And I attached all the wires (after insulating them with electrical tape) to the body of the car with Gorilla Tape. I also gorilla connected the supplied connectors between the LED strip and the lamp OEM connector and attached them to the body with gorilla. tape too. Why? After all, "strands” are not used in cars and motorcycles for nothing. Vibrations, inherent in every vehicle, cause fatigue and failure of the "hard wires". And I don't have a lot of faith in the many angel hair wires these products come with! comes with two different types of connectors designed to fit most OEM sockets) which was causing me intermittent contact and a flickering light. So I used my nails to strip the wires a little further (my regular wire stripper won't even cut through that thin material) and with the blade of a knife I bent the wires back on themselves to supposedly make them thicker. This completely eliminated the twitchy contact, although I argue the manufacturer should have provided a stronger plug. This LED strip is by far not as durable as, for example, Alpena LED strips. This is very similar to the LED bookshelf lighting you can buy at Home Depot. With the Alpena strips, the LEDs and connections are largely open and sealed in a semi-circular silicone bead. In my opinion, they are hardly suitable for use in the car. The steel cross member spanning the top of my trunk is internally slanted towards the rear seats, so I've placed the LED bar where it won't be visible from the outside and protected from impact with what's loaded in the trunk (although it is so). barely enough wire). As a result, the light from the LED strip penetrates deep into the Impala's huge trunk and is a noticeable, if less spectacular, improvement over the original trunk lighting. It's the bluish-white LED light we're all familiar with. The only real plus is that the double sided tape is actually stuck on this tape! Although I still attached the ends with two strips of Gorilla Tape. It's an ugly setup if you ask me (I hate cobblestones), but you'd have to literally climb in the trunk to see it, so I'm living with it for now. And in terms of lighting, it's an improvement. This 18-SMD-5050 trunk LED strip is a good idea but poorly executed. And knowing what I know now, I wouldn't buy it and I wouldn't recommend it. An Alpena LED strip with better connections would be better in my opinion. I might install an Alpena LED strip or two instead (although they have their issues). Please note that I have given five star ratings to other !JDMTOY products and I found their customer service to be excellent when I contacted them. I did not contact them on this occasion because it is. I'd happily welcome a $25 version of this idea, with some serious wiring and quality hardware. Yes, I would spend that money on a $34,000 car!
