Little reduces nitrates and only slightly converts them back to ammonia. I check the water weekly. The aquarium is fine. 6.8 pH, 0 ppm ammonia, 0 ppm nitrite, 4.0 ppm nitrate. I should have known better that nitrates are low but I wanted my fish to enjoy cleaner water. They get 35% miller rate every month and I only had 2 weeks. Added 55ml per half gallon of water already treated and ready for my aquarium and poured into my filtration system to slowly introduce into the aquarium. The fish are already fed. The next morning I found two of my pygmy rams dead. There were only six gnomes in all in the 55 gallon tank. Caught her and went to work. When I got home before feeding, I checked the water again. PH jumped from 6.8 to 7.2, ammonia jumped from 0ppm to 0.25ppm, nitrite remained unchanged, nitrate increased from 4.0ppm to 3.0ppm. I believe I've had these fish for over two years now and the only difference in routine is the INSTANT OCEAN natural nitrate remover. I'm 55. I've had aquariums since I was 19 years old. Not my first rodeo. An aquarium can briefly tolerate higher nitrate levels of up to 50 ppm. Ammonia in any quantity is dangerous and deadly. Why develop a product that converts nitrate back into ammonia?
