Lovely pillow but too fluffy for my 2 year old

Lovely pillow but too fluffy for my 2 year old. His head is held too high and it doesn't look comfortable. He used it for the first time last night and hardly slept. Tonight I suggested he choose his old flatter pillow or the new one and he chose the flatter one. He seems much more comfortable with a smaller pillow on the video monitor tonight. Maybe he's growing into that pillow, but now it just doesn't fit. In this photo you can see how fluffy he is next to my sleeping toddler's head.
