Review on 360pcs KAM Snaps Starter Fasteners Kit Size 20 with Pliers - Ideal for Crafts and Clothing Projects by Karla Richter

Good set - make sure the fabric is LESS than 2mm thick.

Excellent starter kit. An impressive range of fasteners and the tools are good. Before receiving this kit I had never installed latches. The instructions that come with the kit are short, clear and complete: you can't miss them. A few bug fixes included. Everything is covered. The kit comes in two plastic boxes: one for the latches and one for the tools. The fastener drawer is good, but the tool box is weak: it doesn't close well. It's a minor downside, I can still put the tools back in, but it should be better. A warning. I bought this kit for a sewing project that involves attaching buttons to 2 layers of faux leather. The "official" total thickness of the two layers was 2mm. But it wasn't quite like that. By attaching the latch, you are squeezing two parts together: one part has a flat head and pin, and the other is a "male" or "female" latch. do not glue to two layers of imitation leather. No matter how I squeezed the pliers, they fell apart! Troubleshooting revealed this was because the fabric was over 2mm thick and you needed LONG needles which are not included in this kit! Oh God. I wasn't expecting this (I thought I was within the thickness limit). I couldn't afford the delay/issues of ordering the same color bar with longer pins and waiting for another long delivery. So, I'm going to tell you what I did to get out of this situation. I decided to try and reduce the thickness of the fabric by removing a layer on the wrong side, enough for a button. 1-To do a decent job. , I used one of the 'extra' stamps included in the kit as a template and traced it in the exact spot with an erasable marker. 2- using small sharp nail scissors I made a small cut BETWEEN the two layers in the center of the circle 3- carefully cut 2-3mm INSIDE the circle ⭕️, between the layers, parallel to the line of the circle around the whole perimeter and removed this small circle. 4- tried the snap closure (fits perfectly 5- I marked the center of the now single ply faux leather layer, pierced it with a tool and then inserted the top of the stud. won't fall apart and once the pieces are put together you probably won't see any traces of the See "Operation". Success depends on three things: First, make sure your tissue thickness is LESS than 2mm. Second, make sure the pin is fully inserted (hidden/swallowed) into the black matrix before closing the pliers and applying force Third, read the instructions(!) they are short and well written, this is a great kit you will love.

Pros
  • CAUSE B. KAM buckles are made of polyacetal, a plastic that is stronger and more durable than other plastics. Washing again and again is no problem. Do not melt or become brittle in boiling water!
Cons
  • Garden tools
