The perfect wheeled backpack for the business traveler

I've been traveling a lot for work for almost three decades (mainly to East Asian countries) and actually always longer than ever - 3 months a year. Even as laptops and other devices have gotten smaller and lighter over the years, there is still the need to carry around many small peripherals, which inevitably adds weight and bulk. At some point I decided that I could no longer carry a large bag weighing over 15 pounds on my shoulder, be it a backpack or a crossbody bag, through those huge airports in Asia that sometimes make you walk half a kilometer or more . .I've been using the High Sierra trolley backpack for a number of years now and it has served me well but I thought it was time to give it a go along with the new 15.4 inch MBP I recently bought , upgrade. A little time to explore the options and this 16-inch Wenger Synergy Wheeled backpack seemed to stand out from the rest, including the price. It looked well made and the company has a solid reputation so I decided to order and see how it would fit into my everyday travels. I have to say that this bag exceeded my high expectations both in terms of build quality and features. The bag has spacious zipped compartments and many pockets that are very logically arranged to perfectly organize all the little things you need to take with you on a long business trip. The wheels and telescopic handle are of very high quality and reliability. You can tell Wenger put a lot of thought into every little thing and I appreciate that as a businessman dedicated to developing, sourcing and distributing quality products. The laptop padding is excellent. There are more compartments for a tablet, a smaller device like a Kindle, and a very roomy rear compartment for clothes and miscellaneous items for short night rides. I have always found that the front compartment of many bags is not very well organized and you end up with many small items scattered in small pouches. I was very impressed with how this section on this Wenger was organized for things like passport, sunglasses, keys, pens, small medicine/vitamin bottles, receipts etc. The compartment is neat and organized when I travel. The whole bag has a nice high quality look. The materials, the workmanship and the attention to detail are first class and justify the premium price. I can see myself using this bag for years as I wheel it through the huge airports in Asia. Airports in Seoul-Incheon, Hong Kong, Singapore, Jakarta, etc. are ridiculously large. Most have trains between terminals, but one terminal at New Jakarta Airport is so large that it takes a brisk 15-minute walk to get from one end to the other. I was thinking about using a nice shoulder bag for future trips but the thought of this airport I pass through regularly made me think I need a new wheeled backpack and this Wenger would be perfect. I'm already looking forward to my next trips to Europe and Asia in the coming months. During those long, stressful journeys, you want the things you carry with you to be organized and to function properly and reliably. It also helps that the product exudes a quality look and feel. This is one of the nicest things I've ever bought from Revain. Personally, I had never heard of the Wenger brand until I started looking for a new wheeled backpack, although I saw Swiss everywhere. This is a great product. In comparison, most of the other 5 star products I've bought seem to be 3 or 4 stars. It's so good and I'm happy with it. I know I will put it to good use and make my long journeys less stressful and more enjoyable. This bag is designed for the serious traveler and I think I fit the bill when traveling as well as staying in distant places. It's also great for a one- or two-night domestic trip. If I could give a product 6 stars once a year, it would be among all the products I've bought from Revain this year. Update: October 22, 2018 So, since I bought this bag, I have taken a 1 week trip to Sweden and a 2 week trip to Asia to visit suppliers in Korea and Indonesia. One cannot really rate or rate a product like this until it has been road tested. After these two trips, I can honestly say that when I received this bag, it met my high expectations and will accompany me on many more trips in the future. I literally take a mobile office with me on these trips as I need plenty of space for a computer screen as well as a few small gadgets to keep me busy and entertained on long flights and in hotel rooms. I also need a place to fill my bag with duty free gifts and things bought at the airport. I carry the following items in this travel bag: β€’ MacBook Pro 15.4" in leather case (laptop/tablet compartment) β€’ GeChic 15.6" portable display in Tomtoc Slim Bag (large main compartment) β€’ reMarkable tablet for letters (laptop /tablet compartment) β€’ Revain Kindle Voyager (laptop/tablet compartment) β€’ Foldable stands for MBP and GeChic display (spacious main compartment) β€’ MBP power adapter and USB cable (left pocket) β€’ Samsung T5 SSD in case (right pocket) β€’ Sunglasses in case (right pocket) β€’ Satechi number pad for MBP in Tomtoc Slim Bag (spacious main compartment) β€’ Manila folder with multiple papers behind MBP (laptop/tablet compartment) β€’ Small household chemicals in pocket (zipped compartment in front of laptop/tablet compartment) - this is for long flights and enough stuff for a night or two if luggage gets lost or missed a connecting flight, which happens. Always be prepared for things like this on trips like this β€’ Two small battery packs and short USB cables for iPhone (top tray) β€’ Chord Electronics DAC and JH Audio IEM headphones for my portable Hi-Fi audio (top tray) β€’ Apple USB Lightning Adapter & USB HiFi Audio Cable (Top Compartment) I love music, work in the musical instrument industry and travel with this mini HiFi portable audio system. wearing this article. I can imagine adding the next version of the Apple AirPods there. There's still plenty of room. The lower front zipped compartment can hold travel essentials and small items: passport, some pens, USB stick and adapter, IQOS e-cigarette, toothpick, post-it note, Bose Bluetooth headphones, receipts. etc. That's a lot of stuff, and the fully packed bag weighed 20.5 pounds when I weighed it at the airport check-in counter for reference. When I bought a cup of hot coffee at Incheon Airport after getting there very early in the morning, I obviously couldn't put it in the side water bottle pocket and had to go out to smoke, so I used straps to put it on my back and it wasn't as bad as i thought. It was fine to walk a hundred yards or so to find a smoking area, but I definitely wouldn't want to go much further with 21 pounds dangling from my shoulders. But rolling checked baggage with one hand, a cup of coffee with the other, and that backpack behind your back worked well. This confirmed once again that I definitely need a backpack on wheels. The fact is that although it was quite heavy, there was still enough space in the bag. I could easily tuck in my light jacket when flying to tropical Indonesia and other items I bought duty free at the airport. Space is simply not a problem with this bag. Even with all that stuff inside, the bag didn't look like it would burst at the seams at all. It looked like it was filled with just the right amount of stuff. The really well organized pockets and overall layout also made it easy to access and locate. Gone are the days of trying to remember where I put something and rummaging through things to find it. The wheels feel very smooth - especially in airports, but also outside on regular sidewalks. The telescopic handle also works very well and feels good in the hand. On two trips I have walked miles through airport corridors and it was very comfortable for me to carry this bag without any burden on my shoulders. If you travel as much as I do and still travel, you don't need any weight (not even 57 pounds) on your shoulders at all. I have two Tomtoc light shoulder bags to carry some combinations of these items when visiting vendors from the hotel. and for other short trips that require almost no walking. But when I know I have to walk a bit, especially through airports, I will always use this bag. This is a really great bag that has really made my long trips more comfortable, efficient and stress free.
