Review on 🧩 ROKR Wooden Puzzles Music Hands: Unlocking Musical Brilliance with Engaging Wooden Puzzles by Bryan Aleman

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Manage your expectations.

Still in the process of making it so I'll probably change this rating later. So far this is a really nice kit. There are many details. I actually color mine and I've had great success with multiple mediums. It runs fine. I'll add a photo when done. So far I love the kit. * Rating after assembly - I liked the assembly overall. However, I would say that you need to manage your expectations. Please note that this is a wooden set with many fragile parts. There were several extra pieces included, but I only had to use the extra once. The base came together nicely and quite easily. Most of the tender pieces we are at the top of the carousel. There were several breakdowns and most of them were due to parts that were not replaced. This was partly due to the fact that many parts did not fit together. There was a lot of square pins going into round holes, which required a lot of effort to get them in place, leading to breakage and frustration. A few others were hanging out and needed glue. With that in mind, I've downgraded my rating a few stars as this is an inherent design flaw. If you plan on adding paint I would suggest not painting any of the pins/fittings and then touching up the pieces as you build. Thanks to laser cutting, the fit of the dovetail joint is very precise. Be prepared for your fingertips to get a little rough too. Some parts are too small to fit with the tool. Because these tiny pieces don't always fit in the hole (square or oval to round), you really need to tighten them. In terms of general mechanics, the movement is VERY delicate. The instructions are VERY specific on how to position the levers before locking them. Still, the gears tend to bind a bit and it falls out fairly easily. A wax stick is included to reduce friction, but it's too big to fit between the teeth of the gears, so I was expecting the mechanism to look a bit flawed. Also, some fragments added at the end can throw it out of rhythm. In most cases I can manually move it to reset it. Overall, despite the failures (which were purely structural, not mechanical), it performs quite well. It creaks a little and sticks a bit, but that's to be expected given the material. Is it family quality? Probably no. Is it a difficult build? Definitive. Did I like it and would I recommend it? Absolutely. While it may not be something that will stand the test of time, it is nonetheless a detailed and well thought out set. It would be nice for one, or as a collaborative build with your kids or grandkids.
