Update: 09/15/2021 They're still going strong. Everything I said before is true and I'm just as satisfied, if not more so. Smart mapping is still problematic. Roomba and Braava do not share maps. So everyone has to create their own map and you have to manage them separately. I've also moved the base station several times due to the changes and remodels I've made and each time the map is completely lost and needs to be relearned. It doesn't bother me too much because I just delete all the jobs and let them run until they're fully done. Another problem I have, and I don't think I can blame the Roomba, is that the legs of my bed form an arc (sort of a rainbow) from the level of the mattress to the floor. This creates "bevels" where the feet hit the ground. At least every second, if not two out of three cases, the Roomba gets stuck on the ramp. I wish it wasn't but I won't lose form, I understand why it's a problem. I just close the bedroom door when I'm not home, let her work unattended, and only vacuum the bedroom when I'm home to help her when she gets stuck. Original review: December 20, 2020 I bought two of these. One was for me and the other for my mother. I keep mine, she handed back to my mother. I have a cat and as long as it's watching the rumba or just going downstairs the cat doesn't really bother it. My mom has a toy poodle who is afraid of the Roomba, will hide for hours and make it shake. I had to return it because of this, not because of a functional issue. If your pets are nervous, have someone else do a dry run if possible. Pros: 1. Works like a charm. Only glued once (hung on the curtains lying on the floor) 2. It took about three cleaning cycles to map the area. Once I've done that, he mops the floors while I'm at work and I come home to a clean house.3. The app is easy to use. I can run a cleaning cycle while I'm away and get notifications in my app if there are any issues (only useful when I'm home to help, but still). It was easy to set up. Download the app, press two buttons on the Rumba, enter your WiFi password and in 2 minutes you're all set and ready to go. I couldn't have asked for a better experience.4. The application allows you to create zones in your home. You can clean the whole task or just clean specific areas. You can also create non-vacuum areas. Cons: 1. It's a bit noisy and when the Roomba returns to the base it starts a VERY noisy fan/vacuum in the base which sucks the dirt out of the Roomba itself for about a minute. If you're a light sleeper, don't expect to leave it running while you're napping.2. I once placed the Roomba on the other side of the living room. When I did that, he completely lost the house card. The ground had to be mapped from scratch. It didn't affect me much because I didn't setup the map, didn't setup the zones and didn't name it, but for those who did it could be very annoying. Other reviews complain that the Roomba breaks and needs replacing, especially after the 1-year warranty expires. That's why I bought an Assurian with a 3 year warranty. When comparing costs, consider the additional warranty costs if you have similar concerns.4. It leaves about an inch of uncleaned area around the base of Roomba. You'll need to move them regularly and clean around the bases or when it's noticeable. Removes 95% of dirt from the floor. You'll still need to vacuum about once a month to make sure it gets under furniture, around the Roomba's base, baseboards, corners, nooks and crannies. It's in the cons section, but no other robot vacuum avoids this, and I don't consider it a product flaw, but something you'll come across if you use ANY of these vacuums. Roomba is not perfect. Hire robot and forget. You should tidy up before vacuuming and make sure there is nothing on the floor such as B. Clothing/cloths, cords or other items that can be sucked into the room (be careful with phone charger cords plugged into the wall charger). I'm not saying this as cheating because you wouldn't have to do it if you vacuumed by hand, but other reviews complain about it. Think about reasonable limits. This limits the app's benefits somewhat, however, as you'll need to prep the room before letting Roomba go. This limits your ability to simply randomly assign work when you're not at home. I'm not disappointed or frustrated by this, I just need to plan ahead. I also bought the S9+ over the S9, which comes with a cleaning tower for an additional $200. You can still buy it, so it won't affect the rating per se, but I think the cost is worth it if you don't keep Roomba waiting every time you vacuum. Time I save compared to manual cleaning a few times a day. a week (cat fur) is worth it in the long run. I chose S9 over 7 for its filtering and better corner cleaning. The Hepa-lite filter also seems to help with cat dander. The supplies aren't unreasonable and don't appear to be an onerous expense. I have hardwood and tile floors and I don't use it on carpet, so I can't comment on carpet performance.
