Exquisite Gadget / Short Life / Total Garbage

EDIT: 2/25/17 Well, I liked the idea of this article and although the first one I bought only worked for 3 months I decided to give it another try and bought a second one. Another truck. I routed all the wires from the third brake light under the truck and up through the back door, installed the lamp, pressed the brake pedal and nothing! I wasn't too surprised because cheap stuff is cheap stuff and I knew it was happening. It's definitely "cheap junk" as the second one didn't even work right out of the box. I don't understand where all the positive reviews are coming from unless the seller is using paid reviewers. I had 2 of these things and neither of them worked. EDIT: 09/12/16 3 months after the actual installation the lights were dimmed giving little to no light. I've tried clearing the connections and even plugged it directly into a 12V source with no improvement. I didn't have high expectations for the price so I can't be too disappointed. It was pretty cool for its short life and kept other riders where they needed to be. I found this an interesting little gadget and I love gadgets. I hooked it up to the "third" brake light on a Ford Ranger which required a little wiring work. I see some people hooking it up to taillights or taillights, which isn't really what it's designed for. I think this connection increases your chances of being pulled over by the police and there is no point in leaving it on all the time. But that's just my opinion. I don't want people running after me when I stop, and I don't want people sitting right on my bumper at a red light. The conventional wisdom is that when you stop at a stop light you should be able to see the rear wheels of the car in front of you, which measured about 10 to 12 feet. I simply used double sided tape to attach the light and I mounted it as high as possible to reduce the chance of the laser beam reflecting off the wet road into the eyes of following vehicles. In daylight, the red line on the road isn't very bright, and I've found fewer drivers see it. Obviously the light gets more noticeable the darker it gets outside and it seems that drivers see it and most of them stay behind the red line. I found this light to be fairly easy to wire up and extremely easy to install. The light is easy to adjust to the desired distance from the bumper and can also be adjusted horizontally to keep the line straight. It seems to help keep most drivers off my bumper when I'm stopped, the police haven't bothered me (yet), and it's cheap enough that it was worth the experiment.

Pros
  • Make people pay attention to the car in foggy or rainy days.
Cons
  • Weight
