These gloves give you the protection you need to move logs around a campfire or backyard pit for minutes without burning yourself. After moving a few logs, I can feel the heat getting uncomfortable. This usually suffices for any adjustment I wanted to make and is much easier than trying to place the log in the perfect spot with a poker. If I need to make more, I take off my gloves and leave them near the fire for about 5 minutes and then I'm done. I would recommend them for everyday use like a backyard fire or even a home fireplace. . If you're thinking of using them for welding, you're probably fine. If you plan on using them for forging, I doubt they will do.
