Why are these straws so smooth?

I would like to know if this is really 100% bamboo because I have previously had 4 bamboo straws which were solid bamboo and had a texture - no finish on the outside. They worked well in hot drinks because they reduced temperature and softness in the mouth. These have a glossy finish and I don't know what the material is.
