Ordered this item in addition to the very reasonably priced Harbor Freight calipers I bought about 8 years ago. the cheap stuff I mentioned above. I inserted one of the two batteries that came with it and started measuring. All the values I get from it are within 0.01mm (or equal) of the values I get from the HF model. I don't have gauge blocks with me to try them out, but will try to take them to work to try them out in the future. One of the really nice features is the backlight. I've never seen a backlit caliper and it's very handy for improving readability in dark places or even at odd viewing angles. I noticed that the backlight is both a button and a slide switch. Pressing turns on the backlight until you release it. However, moving it to the left "locks" it. It's a little odd that the switch doesn't move all the way to the left (see photo with the lights on), but it works and keeps the light on if moved to the center of the slot, which looks more like the switch is sitting in there . All buttons are very tactile and clicky, which I really like. The HF caliper I have has rubber buttons that feel a little "soft" and hard to tell if you're pressing them or not. The case is hard plastic (no foam inside except the ends of some tabs on the lid which fall onto the caliper when closed. I cut the extra cardboard off the spare battery and it seems to fit the top right pocket shown in the attached photo, with the housing pictured next to the caliper, the manual or maybe the product listing page says this has an auto shut off - I haven't measured it directly but I'm guessing it's in the 5-10 minute non-use range I like it too as I often forget to turn off the calipers which leads to unnecessary battery drain. My only complaint might be that the dial is a bit loose. There is noticeable left/right play when you push it in and turn it sideways and then it feels different more than what I have on the HF caliper. Not a deal breaker but takes some getting used to.Overall I would use it so recommend a cheap entry-level caliper for almost everyone.
