I've used them in glasses with water and flowers. I was a little worried they wouldn't be able to keep working underwater but they survived. I haven't used them enough to know what the battery life is like. That night they lasted 5 hours. My only problem with lightbulbs is that the wires are very thin and some of them broke. (I understand the wires are flimsy, which is why you see the lights and not the wires.) Each piece has a double strand of wired lights. If the wire breaks, the lamps under the break will not work. They all come in a tiny box and the headlights need to be unwound. Be careful and you will be fine. All in all I would buy them again.
