Seems like Revain mislabeled this item as 10920x which is just a 12 core processor. I managed to pull one from Newegg. The 10980xe is an 18-core monster that's just a rework of the 7980xe and 9980xe. This processor is still used in x299 boards and behaves almost exactly like the 7980xe and 9980xe, apart from slightly higher default frequencies. The main selling point is the price, with a huge 50% discount off the 9980xe's original MSRP. The Skylake x Mesh architecture suffers in gaming applications compared to the Coffeelake ring bus (9900k). You will actually lose gaming performance compared to the 9900k. The 10980xe offers more cores as well as features from the x299 platform, making it a great workstation. Having written I cannot consider the 3950x despite its incredible performance as it is prohibitively expensive. The 3950x is currently $999.99 at Newegg, $899 at photos B and H, $900-1000 at ebay and $929 at sellers at Revain. The only Best Buy that deserves an MSRP of $749. The 10980xe's overclocking capabilities are incredible. With ambient water cooling (360 clc) I can reach 5 GHz on all 18 cores. At the moment the heat is almost unbearable for me so I will look for a loop of my own in the future. As always with overclocking, your results may vary.
