Review on πŸ” Dorman 955-1490 Driver Side Power Door Mirror: Ideal Replacement for Honda Models by Tom Roberts

Revainrating 5 out of 5

It was impossible to hope for the best!

The mirror on my 2001 Honda Civic was shattered Saturday night. I ordered this mirror in about an hour and it arrived Monday afternoon. Fifteen minutes later it was installed on my Civic. The only tools I needed were a flat head screwdriver to carefully remove the small triangular molding covering the screws and then an 8mm socket wrench. I removed the 3 nuts from the bolts holding the broken mirror in place, disconnected the wiring harness, pulled out the broken mirror, put on the new mirror (after applying the protective tape that came with the mirror), put the nuts on . back to attach the mirror, reattach the wiring harness, and reattach the molding. VERY simple and easy to make. Another review said the mirror was leaking air and making noise while moving. When I was driving the interstate later that evening, I didn't have anything like that. The only thing I think could be an issue for this reviewer was that he/she may not have applied the weatherproof tape properly or at all. I would advise anyone to look at their broken mirror block and see how the weatherstrip was applied and then apply the strip to the new mirror in the same way. Like I said, I've had no problems and I like the fact that I didn't have to take it and have the dealer or body shop do it and charge me $150 or more for something that cost me less than $30 and just needed 15 minutes to do it yourself.

Pros
  • Elegant design
Cons
  • Low repairability
